Nel brevissimo racconto di Fredric Brown, «Sentinella», un raffinato gioco di specchi qui tradotto in 25 lingue, oltre l’italiano, si manifesta, improvviso e dirompente, il senso profondo della tolleranza; un valore, quest’ultimo, che il mondo attuale mette continuamente alla prova, ora stravolgendolo ora recuperandolo, e che bene attecchisce e si rinnova nel territorio ospitale ed etico della traduzione. Così, le illustrazioni – o meglio le opere – che accompagnano il testo si trasformano in un’ operazione intersemiotica.

The sci-fi short short “Sentry” by Fredric Brown is an elegant play of mirrors, here translated in 25 different languages, which reveals an unexpected, disruptive, deep sense of tolerance. A value that the present world continuously puts on trial, now destroying it, now building it again. A value that easily takes root and grows in the hospitable and ethical field of translation. Thus, the illustrations – or better, the paintings – that accompany the text acquire a new intersemiotic nature.
